The annual PIT count provides HUD, as well as state service providers, with data on unsheltered populations to prioritize funding and other resources for the state’s most vulnerable areas. This year’s HUD PIT Count will take place from 5 a.m. The PIT count is a daylong community-based event that provides a nationwide count of the unsheltered homeless. Head Start is a federally funded free early childhood program for families with children between the ages of 3-5. We are very excited to be able to offer these extended services to more of our vulnerable children of the North Country! These children will also attend classes until mid-June in 2018.Įvidence from research tells us that children who attend preschool programs for longer hours and more days are better prepared for school. Children that attend classes Monday through Friday from 8 till noon will now be able to extend their day until 2:00pm starting in September. With this new funding, 85 of the enrolled children will now be offered extended hours in the Berlin and Littleton Head Start classrooms starting in the fall. Currently, Head Start, a Tri-County Community Action Program serves 235 children/210 families throughout Carroll, Coos and Grafton Counties.
